Frequently asked questions
- Flow did not fire after I submitted a comment
-
- Confirm the Blog comment listener app embed is enabled on your live theme (see installation guide).
- The embed only runs on blog article pages.
- Also confirm your Flow workflow is turned On.
- An active app subscription is required to activate the Flow trigger. A free 14-day trial is available and the plan must be active for the Flow trigger to fire.
- The Setup page says the embed is not active
-
Open the theme editor, go to App embeds, toggle
Blog comment listener on, and save. If you use
multiple themes, enable it on the live theme currently published to your
storefront.
- Do I need to add a block to my blog template?
- No. This app uses an app embed, not a theme block. There is nothing to drag onto the article page.
- Which themes are supported?
- Any Online Store 2.0 theme that supports app embeds and standard Shopify blog comment forms. The listener looks for common comment form field names used by Dawn, Horizon, and similar themes.
- Does the app send email directly?
- No. The app sends events to Shopify Flow. You configure email (or other actions, such as a Slack message) in your Flow workflow — for example using the included Notify staff by email when a new blog comment needs moderation Flow template. To install a Flow using this template, follow the Installation guide steps.
- What fields are available for Flow actions?
- Available fields include comment author, email, body, article title, article URL, moderation URL, and timestamps. Fields related to the store are also available. See Flow Field Specs for more details.
- Can I approve a comment by clicking the moderation link in an email? The moderation link will take you to the "Manage comments" page within your store, where you can review all comments which are pending approval. From there you can select the comment to approve or mark as spam.
- What data does the app store?
-
Comment details are kept only briefly until Flow is triggered, then immediately
deleted. Information about your store is retained while your subscription is active.
See our privacy policy for full details. - Where can I see usage statistics?
- In the app admin, open Plan and Usage for lifetime comment counts and store status.
- I uninstalled and reinstalled — will my counts reset?
- Lifetime comment totals persist across reinstalls. Pending comment content from before uninstall is not retained.
- Why is this something I have to pay for?
- This app was built to fill a gap in the day-to-day management of one of our client's stores. We tried to make it free for all but there are hosting and usage charges which add up a tiny bit at a time as the app is used. We hope the low price makes it affordable to fill the gap of no built-in Shopify blog comment notifications.
Clicking the moderation link provided by this app will not trigger approval of the comment without further action within the Shopify admin (this app does not have any scopes within your store so cannot "write" the comment approval to your store's comment list).
